Websters defined “politically correct as a means conforming to a belief that language and practices which could offend political sensibilities (as in matters of sex or race) should be eliminated.

However, the American Heritage Dictionary  said “politically correct” means supporting policies and programs that widely affects educational, social and political issues.  Eventually, the negative connotation was introduced and became a buzz phrase around corporate America. If you did not fit into the team mold or concept, because you weren’t “politically correct” in your ideas or your quest to enhance the image that went along with whatever product, idea, or trailblazing that the company wanted to present, then it didn’t matter what you did have to offer if it wasn’t presented in a politically correct manner.

Today is voting day in America!  God Bless America! The pot shots and put downs end today!  So do all the political strategies and campaign promises.  From overkill stats to underdog blasts, the mental and emotional impact of this campaign has taken it’s toll on Americans (and the candidates, no doubt).  Any time now, we should see humble and politically correct behavior exuberantly exhibited by the candidates, and anyone associated with the campaigns.  But wow, don’t you feel like you just went through a major verbal battle and had to make major life decisions that will make or break you for years on end?  Nothing politically correct about that,  THAT’s for sure!

You had a fantastic meeting today.  The team from Sales and Marketing were pumped and ready to market the product! The Ad team was busy coming up with creative concepts to sell the product.  Finance had all the financials calculated to the very penny leaving little room for error.  Sales Reps were on standby.  Manufacturing had dates lined up and shipping would be no issue no matter where the product was delivered whether in or out of the country.

So, what or who was the missing part of the puzzle?  The Client.  You did not invite the client to the meeting today, you just assumed everything would be agreeable to them since the original concept was already approved by them.  OOPS!

 HOLD YOUR HORSES!!!                  PULL IN THOSE REIGNS!!!  Did it ever occur to you that your perception may be different from the clients and that your entire campaign could be reversed after all the preparation and planning?  Perhaps you liked the color red for emphasis but he HATES that color because it reminds him of the red paint that was scratched off his brand new BMW  car at a parking lot, and it puts him in a very negative mood.  There’s NO “He Haw” there! 

The Point is simple.  Never come to assumptions or conclusions about any product or campaign without involving your clients thoughts, ideas, and perceptions.  You can offer and suggest things of course, in fact you should, that’s what he hired you for, but just remember, the happy client is the one who also participates.  After all, it is HIS  baby!  

All fun aside,  when planning a strategy for your client, make sure you ask him/her, THEIR ideas on promoting, placement, production and the product itself. Even the presence on the internet should reflect that of your clients taste and how they perceive their product and expectations, while using your help to create and realize their dreams. Whether you are doing promotions for your client, or selling them a product they ordered, color, size and performance ALL can make a difference…to them.

“Basic Marketing,” was a classic and influential book written by E. Jerome McCarthy. The book was credited for developing the concept of the 4 Ps of Marketing, which was proven to be very successful for over 40 years. The highly effective concepts, however, met a new dimension as the Internet offered an entirely new realm to marketing strategies.  The 4 Ps obviously would need to integrate the concept of using high technology and Internet Marketing to update the Marketing concepts of a product online.

Under the first “P”, the customer PRODUCT along with all the essentials, the subsequent guarantee, how to use the product and customer product support, are all strategies that will never go away no matter where or how you market your product. However, the Product can now be viewed without even leaving your home.  All the guarantees, teaching of how to use the product and providing customer support, can ALL be done online now. 

Marketing programs are abundant on the internet, and choosing which one that will benefit your product the most is the ultimate goal to also PLACEMENT of your product. Finding new ways to advertise your product electronically could help you reduce cost.  Perhaps you can even deliver the goods electronically, depending on the product, or by using e-mail ordering to reduce cost. 

Ads can electronically PROMOTE your business, but so can social networking, creative web design, video and audio promotions and blogging.  There are endless ways of promoting your business on-line.  Newsletters, E-mails, Associations, Social Networking, and again, the various media outlets found on the internet, which can all help you boost your sales almost immediately. 

The internet invites you to do research to compare PRICES with your competition and perhaps even in helping you to decide to increase or decrease your price to induce more revenue from your product. You can have a 24-hour sale online. You can initiate ideas looking at web copy and learn from creative techniques used by your competitors.

You will find that Product, Placement, Promotion, and Prices, are all Perfect Pre-requisites for Potential and Posterity for your business!  However, now in this high-tech world, you must use the internet Intelligently, Intuitively, while Initiating the Internet Infrastructure you need to be successful!
